FR / Andrew Humke met au centre de sa pratique une esthétique et des ornements toujours anciens, en les réactualisant en des assemblages réconciliés : sa pratique est contextuelle. Andrew Humke s’intéresse aux motifs antiques ; quand il ne peint pas, il parcourt les pages des livres d’archéologie et d’histoire de l’art qu’il aime accumuler autour de lui. Quand il peint, il créé des compositions, généralement sur des toiles de grand format, s’inspirant de la Grèce archaïque ou classique, de l’Égypte antique ou du monde mésopotamien. Très librement, il habille ses supports de motifs revisités et pourtant familiers ; lions assyriens, rinceaux gréco-romains, palmes du Nil, tous ces ornements sont réunis dans une synthèse picturale colorée, rappelant l’art des peintures murales ou des cartons de tapisserie.

Auprès des compositions d’Andrew Humke, les oeuvres de Bella Hunt & DDC : une sélection de travaux en stuc et céramique qui s’inscrivent dans la continuité de l’exposition « Les Chemins du Sud », présentée en 2019 au MRAC de Sérignan. Ils s’appuient sur l’imaginaire d’un sud allégorique, réinterprétations de formes et de motifs entre histoire et pop culture, aboutissant à des fantasmagories hors du temps.

Andrew Humke et Bella Hunt & DDC sont au coeur de Southway Studio, projet mouvant et contextuel fondé en 2018 par Emmanuelle Luciani, historienne de l’art, artiste et curator : un écosystème de production, d’exposition, d’œuvres d’art et de résidence.

EN / Andrew Humke puts ancient aesthetics and ornaments at the heart of his practice, updating them in reconciled assemblages: his practice is contextual. Andrew Humke is interested in ancient motifs; when he's not painting, he peruses the pages of the archaeology and art history books he likes to accumulate around him. When he paints, he creates compositions, generally on large-format canvases, inspired by archaic or classical Greece, ancient Egypt or the Mesopotamian world. He freely dresses his supports with revisited yet familiar motifs: Assyrian lions, Greco-Roman scrolls, Nile palms, all these ornaments are brought together in a colorful pictorial synthesis, reminiscent of the art of wall paintings or tapestry cartoons.

Alongside Andrew Humke's compositions, works by Bella Hunt & DDC: a selection of works in stucco and ceramics that follow on from the "Les Chemins du Sud" exhibition, presented in 2019 at the Sérignan MRAC. They draw on the imagination of an allegorical South, reinterpreting forms and motifs between history and pop culture, resulting in timeless phantasmagorias.
