FR / En prolongement d’History of Fantasy, organisé à Anvers sur invitation de Everyday Gallery, Southway Studio ouvre pour la Design Parade à Toulon un temple-salon fantasmagorique. À mi-chemin entre l’esthétique spirit et solennelle de la Rose-Croix esthétique et les réinventions formelles et extravagantes de la fantasy, « A Fantasy lounge » est un fantasme historique, fruit de relectures, réinventions et réinterprétations. Cette plongée vers l’imaginaire de l’heroic ou de la dark fantasy, courant de la culture populaire qui prend sa source dans le Seigneur des Anneaux, oeuvre littéraire du philologue J.R.R. Tolkien, ainsi que dans les mythes et les légendes antiques et médiévaux, vient comme rappeler l’idéalisme mystique et vitaliste du symbolisme et de l’esthétique fin-de-siècle. La lasciveté des formes, l’impression irréelle et onirique qu’elles diffusent dans ce salon mystique n’est pas sans rappeler les courbes végétales et serpentines de l’Art nouveau.
La collaboration avec Everyday Gallery et le duo Schimmel & Schweikle met en avant un ensemble mobilier hors du temps. Les courbes et les ornements, réminiscences d’ornements folkloristes ou folklorisés, s’entrechoquent avec les matériaux résolument contemporains qui les composent : bois composé, pâte en sciure... Surgissant tel un vestige du Permien, la chaise en forme de coquillage d’Étienne Marc confère au lieu un air d’Atlantide, alors que les céramiques et le mobilier en stuc-chaux de Bella Hunt & Ddc, hybridation entre le gothique, le tuning et l’art elfique, donnent à la salle des allures de temple. En témoigne la console aux ornements organiques ou les blasons ornant les murs. La majesté légère et onirique des textiles de Jenna Käes, accrochés en bannières et tapisseries, termine de donner à « A Fantasy Lounge » des allures de repaire magique et souterrain.
EN / As an extension of History of Fantasy, organised in Antwerp at the invitation of Everyday Gallery, Southway Studio is opening a phantasmagorical temple-lounge for the Design Parade in Toulon. Halfway between the spiritual and solemn aesthetics of the aesthetic Rosicrucian and the formal and extravagant reinventions of fantasy, "A Fantasy lounge" is a historical fantasy, the result of rereadings, reinventions and reinterpretations. This plunge into the imaginary world of heroic or dark fantasy, a current of popular culture that has its roots in the Lord of the Rings, the literary work of the philologist J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as in ancient and medieval myths and legends, is reminiscent of the mystical and vitalist idealism of symbolism and fin-de-siècle aesthetics. The lasciviousness of the forms, the unreal and dreamlike impression they give off in this mystical salon is reminiscent of the vegetal and serpentine curves of Art Nouveau.
The collaboration with Everyday Gallery and the duo Schimmel & Schweikle brings to the fore a timeless furniture ensemble. The curves and ornaments, reminiscent of folkloristic or folklorized ornaments, clash with the resolutely contemporary materials of which they are composed: composite wood, sawdust paste... Emerging like a Permian relic, the shell-shaped chair by Étienne Marc gives the place an air of Atlantis, while the ceramics and stucco-lime furniture by Bella Hunt & Ddc, a hybrid between Gothic, tuning and elven art, give the room the appearance of a temple. The console with its organic ornaments and the coats of arms on the walls are proof of this. The light and dreamy majesty of Jenna Käes' textiles, hung as banners and tapestries, finish off the look of "A Fantasy Lounge" as a magical underground lair.
