Emile Barret

FR / Né la même année que le World Wide Web, Emile se considère comme une sorte de Savant Fou Maximaliste rêvant de voyager à travers temps et espaces. Après un BAC en Histoire des Arts et une prépa à Paris, il est parti en Suisse pour un bachelor en Communication Visuelle option Photographie à l’ECAL (Ecole Cantonale d’Arts de Lausanne). Il a toujours eu besoin d’un cadre théorique, en mettant en place ses propres recherches anthropologiques à illustrer. À la suite de son diplôme, il a explosé le cadre de la photographie classique en explorant des formes d’arts total, comme le jeu vidéo. Cela lui a permit de collaborer avec la chanteuse Suisso-Népalaise Aïsha Devi, en réalisant un jeu sur la méditation, puis en la suivant en tournées (pendant 5 ans!) pour projeter ces contenus évolutifs pendant ses concerts. Ils réaliseront ensuite une vidéo 360° sur les porosités des mondes invisibles.

Depuis 2013, il fait parti de l’association Hors Pistes, qui organise des résidences entre artisans et designers, tout d’abord en tant que participant/équipe éditoriale (à Ouagadougou en 2013) puis en tant que documentariste, portraitiste, scénographe... de l’association. Il est aussi membre du collectif indépendant (Musicfor)Eggplant.

Pendant la crise Covid, il s'offusque de la manière dont les malades et les morts sont traité.es, et concentre sa pratique sur l'étude des Arts Funéraires. 

Vivant dans les Brasseries Atlas à Bruxelles depuis 2020, il y organise en 2021 une exposition, MORT IS MORE, consacrée à ce sujet, qui réunit plus de 50 artistes internationaux.

EN / Born the same year as the World Wide Web, Emile considers himself as a kind of Mad Scientist Maximalist dreaming of traveling through time and space. After a BAC in Art History and a preparatory course in Paris, he went to Switzerland for a bachelor's degree in Visual Communication with a major in Photography at the ECAL (Ecole Cantonale d'Arts de Lausanne). He always needed a theoretical framework, setting up his own anthropological research to illustrate. Following his graduation, he exploded the framework of classical photography by exploring total art forms, such as video games. This allowed him to collaborate with the Swiss-Nepalese singer Aïsha Devi, making a game about meditation, then following her on tour (for 5 years!) to project these evolving contents during her concerts. They will then realize a 360° video on the porosities of the invisible worlds.

Since 2013, he is part of the association Hors Pistes, which organizes residencies between artisans and designers, first as a participant/editorial team (in Ouagadougou in 2013) and then as a documentarian, portraitist, scenographer... of the association. He is also a member of the independent collective (Musicfor)Eggplant.

During the Covid crisis, he is offended by the way the sick and the dead are treated, and focuses his practice on the study of Funeral Arts.

Living in the Brasseries Atlas in Brussels since 2020, he organizes in 2021 an exhibition, MORT IS MORE, dedicated to this subject, which brings together more than 50 international artists.
