Southway’s potential for timelessness, even atemporality, is powerfully embodied in the «Draped Flame» edition. It is the result of a long theoretical and technical work around the drapery, a transhistoric motif par excellence, which has crossed all periods, from Antiquity to present time. The polished flame, an art object made of aluminum or bronze, reflects in its undulations the memory of its previous incarnations, from the marble togas of Greco-Roman statuary to the neo-classical brass torchieres of the 1940s, and the Palladian fire pots.
